What I enjoy most about Christmas is the gift-giving. I’d be perfectly content to skip the decorating and even the food. I truly enjoy giving a gift I have selected specifically for someone. The only thing better than seeing the joy on a recipient’s face is when they open something I have made just for them. Personalized handmade gifts are something I try to give everyone in my family every year. This year some special people will be getting handmade earrings I’ll be using my Cricut to make.

Personalized Christmas Gifts
This time last year I was just starting to use my Cricut Maker. Now, I use it every single day! In just a few short months I’ve gone from cutting for hobbies to cutting for business.
Even before things took off, I had a growing list of things to make for gifts this year. Deciding what to share for this post wasn’t easy. Not only do I have so many things I’m using my Cricut to make gifts this year, but I also don’t want to give away the surprise!
My Cricut has enabled me to customize and personalize so many things this year. Here are a few examples of things I have already done:

Personalized Earrings
Once upon a time, making jewelry was my favorite craft. I could spend hours designing and making jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings. You name it, I made it.
My materials were constantly changing as well. Beading, wire working, clay, paper, fabric, paint… I was using mixed media before I knew what that even meant.
Jewelry was my first peak inside the world of crafting for business. At 11-years-old, I began accompanying my mom to art and craft shows.
But, that’s a whole story in itself…
While I don’t feel I have a main craft at this point in time, I do still enjoy making and giving custom jewelry.
Of course, I have started to use my Cricut to make jewelry! Leather earrings are a great way to start.
Because I don’t want to give away actual gifts I’m giving this year, this example is for me!
What makes them personalized to me? They match my favorite Soley Jane shoes!
I’m so not a leopard person or even animal print, but there is something about these shoes, and I decided I needed matching earrings.
Cricut Earrings
I started with an earring kit which gave me a variety of “leather” options to select from. Plus jump rings and fish-hook earrings. This kit even came with tools. Pliers are always within reach in my craft room, but I can always have another pair around.
Making earrings with a Cricut is easy. Design Bundles has a variety of SVG files of earrings for purchase and free. I used this teardrop design.
The purple strong grip mat is ideal for the faux leather (upside down). But, I like to cut from the finished side. Which has led me to another solution.
Using either a standard grip or strong grip mat, I first lay out a piece of contact paper.
Now the leather can be placed on the mat pattern up and not leave fuzz all over the mat.
Sometimes I use masking tape and tape the leather in place also, just for a little added support. I’m not sure why sometimes that seems necessary. It might be thicker leather that it is more helpful with.
Then with the knife blade it only takes a single cut. I have also tried it using a fine point blade set for thicker materials and done a double cut.
Using pliers and a jump ring tool, simply add the earring hooks.
If you cut several pairs of earrings at once and assemble them all together, it’s very easy to make lots of giftable earrings!
Don’t have a Cricut? Don’t worry, the kit I started with traceable patterns and a small hole punch! Simply trace your shape, cut it out by hand, and use the hole punch to make the top hole to attach the jump ring.
