We’ve decked the halls, now it’s time to trim the tree! The final day of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop is upon us. Today we’ll be sharing our Christmas trees. In the past, I have always let the kids decorate the tree, occasionally moving some ornaments later. This year, I was a bit surprised when the girls put the tree up (we use artificial due to allergies) and said they wanted me to do the decorating… “So it’s Pinterest pretty!” Um, ok… While I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily going to go viral on Pinterest, I am pretty pleased with the garland I finally made.

O Christmas Tree
The kids left me the tree like this:
There are no lights on the back and half a strand in the middle wasn’t working!
I never liked the white cords on the lights. They were on hand and needed to be used one year when our multi-colored ones died. Since I keep saying we’ll replace it with a pre-lit tree, I constantly saw this as temporary.
IronFish disagrees and thinks the tree is fine.
It was time to do something about the white cords. Alternating between white, off-white, and burlap, I tied strips of fabric between the lights on two working strings of lights.
As easy as it was, it actually took several hours to do! But the girls loved it when they got home.
They wanted to leave it with just the lighted garland. O-Man had other ideas and wanted to hang every single ornament possible, and then some. He’s been known to stick stuffed animals into the tree… when he was 2 he even put a plunger in the tree!
Don’t worry… it was a clean plunger… we had to hide the one we used and buy him his own since it was his favorite “toy” for about 6 months!
Eventually, we settled on ornaments with the kid’s names or the whole family.
And, I made a dozen of my “knit” ornaments to add.
Now, if I could only figure out which box the tree skirt ended up in… despite my labled boxes, none of them say “tree skirt!”
