It’s time for another edition of #ProjectChallenge. Each month a few of my blogging friends and I each make a project using the challenge item. This month it is cutting boards. I have to admit, I really didn’t have anything brewing in my head for an old cutting board. Personally, I have several of the plastic kind and when they get worn and stained, I just replace them. So, I hit the local thrift store looking for a cutting board I could use and some inspiration. Seems like a lot of people use the plastic ones nowadays because that was mostly what I found. I was ready to give up when I found a small marble cutting board. I love marble. My wheels started turning.

Supplies

Once I had my cutting board I found a small chalkboard and a clip at the dollar store. Then I raided my scrap wood collection.

You will also need a good adhesive and possibly a Sharpie or permanent black marker. Since the chalkboard has unfinished edges, the marker fixes this.

Color it in! I know, complicated, right?

I goofed and forgot to take a picture of the real hardest part… The scrap of wood cut on a diagonal. I simply drew a straight line from one corner to the other and cut it into two wedge pieces with a chop saw.

And, I did a crappy job at it! My wrist was bothering me and I couldn’t move the saw to a better location. But, it still serves its purpose.

Glue

I used Gorilla Glue to attach the chalkboard to the marble, following their directions. To hold it in place while it dried, I put two of the samples I have of my countertops. Perfect weights!

E6000 was a better glue for attaching the clip. Once everything was dry, I used the E6000 to glue the wood wedge to the back.

Recipe Holder

Once everything was dry, it was ready to be put to use!

I can jot a quick recipe on it, or clip a recipe card at the top. Most of the time, I pull recipes up on my phone or tablet. Both can easily lean against this. Tasha has been writing out recipes she wants to try, so I know she’ll get good use of this.

And, I love that it goes seamlessly with the rest of my kitchen!
