We are huge ice cream fans in our house. There is almost always ice cream in our freezer. Growing up, my mom always kept lots of ice cream in our freezer and friends always stopped by after school to hang out and have ice cream… along with whatever other treats she had baked. When it’s really hot and I’m also thirsty, one of the most refreshing treats ever is a rootbeer float. My kids think so too, especially O-Man. So, recently, we decided to try making our own no-churn ice cream. When I asked him what flavor we should make, he wanted root beer flavored ice cream!
No Churn Ice Cream
I’ve tried churn methods of ice cream in the past. The kids had a blast using an ice cream ball (similar) to make homemade ice cream. Unfortunately, it never made enough!
When I saw the 2-ingredient ice cream recipe… no churning required, I knew it was worth trying. It would be something fun and simple to do with O-Man on a rainy summer afternoon.
And, it was! Except that he wanted to flavor it with root beer. After explaining I didn’t think adding root beer to the cream and sweetened condensed milk would work, we went on a hunt for root beer extract. Thankfully we have a great little place near the lake and easily picked it up. They had tons of flavors to choose from. We also could have resorted to Amazon (like these).
The recipe is very simple and we followed the directions in the original recipe. Vikalpah shows several different ideas of flavors.
Root Beer Float Flavored Ice Cream
We made our whole batch root beer flavored. Because of the cream and the sweetened condensed milk, it’s a very decadent ice cream. The kids were all surprised how rich and flavorful it was compared to anything store bought.
Because of the creaminess of the ice cream base, adding the root beer flavoring naturally made the ice cream taste just like a root beer float.
Root beer float flavored ice cream is definitely a hit in our house. I can’t wait to see what the kids want to try next! It’s a good thing we have a huge freezer, we could easily fill it up with homemade ice creams.
