Using only supplies already in my stash, I created my Baby Blues Blanket using two simple stitches and lots of color, the perfect baby gift! Plus more craft destash ideas. www.domesticdeadline.com

I love a craft challenge. I especially love a craft challenge that involves only using supplies I already have on hand! Now I have two groups where the goal is to craft only with supplies on-hand. It’s actually become my mission, to only use supplies I have already and only purchase supplies if I need something to finish a project. But, for this challenge, we could only use what we already had. Since I was asked to make a baby blanket with the only parameters of “gray, white and blue,” it turned out pretty easy to make my Baby Blues Blanket all from yarn I already had available.

Baby Blues Blanket

For this blanket, since there wasn’t a specific shade of blue or gray required, I thought it would be fun to use as many shades of blue and gray as I had!

This isn’t really a pattern, but if you’re familiar with crocheting, it’s only two stitches: Double Crochet and the stitch used in basic Granny Squares (3 DC in a stitch, ch 1, repeat).

Because I had a lot of the light “baby blue” color, I crocheted 6 rows of it, that and working through a cycle of blue, gray, white, resulted in the rows changing (ie, not all gray rows were DC and all blue rows Granny).

My starting chain was somewhere around 36′”.

Not only did I rotate the colors (blue, gray, white) but I also rotated through shades. Three gray yarns were used (light, medium, dark) and multiple shades of blue were used. For the blue, I grouped them in light, medium, and dark so I kept the flow in order. I also put the darkest gray after the lightest blue and vice versa.

And no, that’s not black in there, just a very dark navy!

Once my the blanket was about 4 feet long, I used the light gray and single crocheted a border around the whole blanket (two rows). My final border row was the crab stitch to really finish it off.

Now, on to see how everyone else did in the challenge!
