I can’t believe how long it has been since I’ve participated in a Pinterest Challenge! It’s so exciting to be back. If you don’t remember, the Pinterest challenge is a group of bloggers who each share something they made inspired by something found on Pinterest. Most of the time, I share craft projects. Sometimes recipes. But this time, I have a confession to make, it’s neither. But, my inspiration still came from Pinterest… O-Man and I made a Nerf Wall!
Inspiration
I am not a naturally organized person. Organization is something I’m constantly battling. The skill of picking up after myself has never come naturally to me. Or my kids!
Continuing to work at improving my organizational skills is something that never falls off my to-do list. The girls are actually doing much better in this area than I am. O-Man is another story.
He’s kinda like Pigpen. It’s the best way to describe him.
When he went to scout camp this summer, I decided I needed to help him out.
I cleaned his room from top to bottom.
It’s always so much easier to clean and organize other people.
Toys I hadn’t seen in ages were given away.
His favorites were organized on the shelves and storage ottomans we set up for him when we first moved.
But, his collection of Nerf guns has grown.
And, half of them don’t fit into the ottomans. I knew piling them on the shelves was the equivalent of a pile on the floor for my little Pigpen.
So, I turned to Pinterest for ideas and inspiration. I found lots of nerf wall arsenals using pegboards, so we got to work.
Nerf Wall
I know for a fact, the Nerf collection will continue to grow. He’s listing the guns he wants for Christmas as I type this!
We decided using interlocking pegboard squares would enable O-Man’s Nerf wall display to grow with his collection. Installation was easy.
First, we laid out an initial plan to get an idea of what we wanted. O-Man likes the longer Nerf laser guns (which actually belong to the family as we all got one for Christmas) hanging off the bottom.
Then we decided where we wanted to hang the first square, making sure it was high enough off the ground for the longest gun to hang with enough room. And we went from there.
Six squares worked out nicely for his Nerf wall. The squares are designed to be screwed in the pre-indicated holes right into the studs.
Then O-Man had a blast arranging and rearranging all of his Nerf guns until they hung exactly as he liked them. The combination of 2″ hooks and 4″ pegs worked well for achieving the perfect angle in his display!
The Nerf guns are the only toys that no longer end up on the ground! Occasionally I hear him moving things around, tweaking the layout. But, every night, all the Nerf guns have ended up exactly where they started… Displayed neatly on his Nerf wall.
Now… if I could only figure out how to make the same thing happen for his clothes… Legos… towels… stuffed animals… books…
Well, at least one spot is neatly organized in this house! Now I’m looking at how I can use some of these pegboards to help me in my craft room!
