We are artificial Christmas tree people. Partially because squirrels skeeve me out (aka Christmas Vacation) but mainly because Tasha and I are allergic to real trees. So, many years ago, for our first Christmas together, IronFish and I got an artificial tree. A few years later the pre-lit trees came out. And I wanted one! Then I wanted a slim one to take up space when those hit the market. It just never seemed like it was the right time to spend the money. But, as we approach our 4th Christmas in this house, we finally upgraded the Christmas tree!

It’s Day 10 and we are sharing our Christmas Tree!
Upgraded Christmas Tree
Our old house had standard 8-foot ceilings. Our new house has 10-foot ceilings in the kitchen, dining room and living room!
I love the tall ceilings. But, the tree looked so dinky at only 6-feet tall. For the past 2 years, I’ve thought about getting a new tree during the after Christmas sales. But, I didn’t find what I wanted and I didn’t want to settle.
But, this year, it was time for an upgraded Christmas Tree!
Especially since I could now get LED pre-lit and a slim tree AND a 9-foot tree!!!!!
I found the tree I wanted with the most realistic needles and shopped around. At the time, Kohl’s had the best price. Not only is the tree pre-lit, but we have our choice of colors!
So, we need a new tree topper (our old one made the tree top-heavy) and I still can’t find our tree skirt! It was missing last year, I thought I remembered finding it, but if I did, it’s gone missing again.
The girls liked the garland I made out of Christmas lights last year. At first, I thought I’d have to make new garland since we no longer needed the lights. But, we decided to use it as it was since when the lights aren’t lit in the garland, you can’t tell there are lights!
We’ve even lit the garland and tree lights, it really shines then!
Ornaments
I’ve loved the farmhouse style well before it became as popular as it is now. But, it wasn’t until this house that I could get that look. Not only are we moving the overall Christmas decor towards our style, but the tree and ornaments too.
Last year I tossed all broken ornaments (I stopped saying I would fix them!). And passed on any that had no sentimental meaning and didn’t fit the style.
Or, turned old ornaments into new ones, like my knit look ornaments, as seen on the right, below.
Most years I get an ornament that has all 5 of us on it, like the reindeer one above.
And my friend Emily from Two Purple Couches made me a few darling snowflake ornaments for the Christmas ornament exchange.
And I made a few new ones for the Dollar Store Challenge – Christmas.
I have some other ideas, but they will depend on if I have time or not to get them finished this year! There’s still so much to do for Christmas!
