While planning my industrial pipe light fixture, I also started thinking about a coordinating toilet paper holder. Not only did this need to hold the toilet paper in use, but some spare rolls as well. You would think if more toilet paper was easily accessible the empty roll would be replaced. It’s the theory I’m working with, so all toilet paper holders in my house need to hold more than one roll. By carrying the gas pipe into more than one piece in the bathroom, the industrial farmhouse look isn’t just one piece out of place.
Gather the Parts
Most of my parts were gathered when I made my light fixture.
Since I like to use the giant rolls of toilet paper from Costco, I made sure I had a few on hand. This way, ensuring the toilet paper holder would accommodate the larger rolls.
During the painting of the storage crates and shelves for the hidden storage, I painted some scrap wood to act as the base of the stand.
The base is constructed of a scrap of 2×6 and trimmed with scrap pallet wood from my stash. Obviously, this design could easily be played with, offering other looks, but here is what I used:
Assemble the Toilet Paper Holder
Starting with the pipe flange, I began assembling the pieces tightening them by hand as much as possible. Because I wanted the “in use” roll to line up across from the “reserve” rolls, IronFish had to put a little more muscle into lining them up for me.
Cap off each end.
Give the assembled toilet paper holder a few light coats of hammered finish black spray paint on all sides. I love this spray paint! It’s the same paint I used on for the pipes for my open kitchen shelves.
Once dry, secure the pipe flange into the wooden base.
Load up with toilet paper and it’s ready to go!
Industrial Toilet Paper Holder
Having storage for new rolls of toilet paper balances the piece out well.
It’s definitely larger than any of the toilet paper holders I have purchased, but quite sturdy. Plus, it really works for the room.
After a few months of use, the results of my theory are in… Just because there is additional toilet paper attached to the toilet paper holder does not mean the empty roll will be replaced!
Maybe it’s a boy thing. We’ll see what happens when I renovate the girls’ bathroom…
