Find out how to sew an easy makeup bag and use up fabric scraps. Fun colorful zippers and beautiful fabric make these makeup bags great gifts #sewing #makeupbag #fabricstash #craftroomdestash #teachergift #bridesmadegift www.domesticdeadline.com

I’ve been participating in the craft room destash challenge each month for quite some time now… probably at least a year if not more! Each month it motivates me to use up the overflowing amount of craft supplies I have. I managed to get my sewing machine uncovered recently to work on a few projects that have been on my to-do list for quite some time. This easy makeup bag is a great stash buster for fabric and something I go back to frequently. As a Rodan+Fields consultant, I like to make these as gifts for my customers. Cute makeup bags are great gifts for teachers, my daughters actually use them for their school supplies! Plus, they tend to sell well when I have them available in my Etsy shop.

Easy Makeup Bag

I absolutely cannot take credit for this pattern. Deby from So Sew Easy put together a fantastic tutorial and has it available as a free PDF. Sew, (see what I did there, lol) I didn’t take pictures of the process! Because sometimes I like to just sew scraps of fabric together, I later enjoy finding projects to use those patchwork pieces for. This is perfect for them! This is also a great way to use the fabric quarters I can’t seem to stop collecting! Or pieces of larger cuts of fabric leftover from other projects. Several years ago I discovered I could order 100 12″ zippers in an assortment for pennies each on Amazon. So I always have zippers handy. Especially great since a single zipper can be a few dollars at the craft store, even on sale! Having fun colored zippers to mix and match with my fabric stash makes this project even more fun.

  1. Even in a thrift store these makeup bags cost a few dollars. Getting your materials in bulk really makes reasonable projects down the line. - Margy
  2. I love all of your pretty fabric! I'm a fabric addict myself - we have a really nice quilt shop about 5 miles from my house that I have to make sure I stay away from unless they are having a really good sale!
  3. Those little bags are super cute! I haven’t been seeing in a long time but I’d like to get started again. But I am a little scared of doing projects that include a zipper. Maybe I’ll brave up and try this one.
