Each month I enjoy participating in the Movie Monday Challenge. Some months we all take inspiration from the same movie and other month’s our inspiration comes from the movie of our choice based on a theme. This month’s theme was Mom’s Favorite Movie in honor of Mother’s Day (can you guess what next month’s theme will be? lol). My mom’s favorite is Eddie and the Cruisers, not exactly the easiest movie to find inspiration for a craft or recipe.
Eddie and the Cruisers
I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times, with and without my mom as it’s one of my favorites too. Eddie and the Cruisers takes place along the Jersey Shore in the 1960s. Growing up in Ohio and Pennsylvania, I never expected to live so close to the Jersey Shore myself!
Life has been pretty hectic around here lately and I haven’t had a few hours to sit down and watch the movie for the millionth time. But, I’ve been raking my brain trying to come up with an idea of something I could do for my mom inspired by the movie or the song lyrics. Could I do something using the lyrics of one of the songs for her?
I’ve been on the phone with my mom a lot lately. Living 8 hours away from each other sometimes means when I need help with kids, she’s able to give it in the form of advice. As this project was coming down to the wire, I started to read over the lyrics again. I ended up looking at the lyrics to a song from Eddie and the Cruisers II, Eddie Lives, when something hit me… the lyrics were perfect… but not for my mom.
For my daughter.
And everything fell into place. JuneBug made me a mother, but I’m the mother I am today because of the wonderful mother I have.
Just a Matter of Time
It’s just a matter of time or it just takes time. Both versions of the phrase have become my mantra in helping JuneBug through a rough time in her life.
As a mother, it’s hard to see our children suffer. Guiding them through the ups and downs of life, knowing how time heals and changes things helps. But kids and teenagers often struggle to wait for that time to come.
Using the lyrics to the song “Just a Matter of Time,” I selected some of my favorite pictures of JuneBug over the years and put together a little album for her. Just a little book she can carry with her when she needs a little extra encouragement when I can’t be with her.
Over the pictures, I used the lyrics of the song.
Some of the pages I’m leaving blank. When this arrives, I will include a colorful set of journaling pens for her. I want her to use the blank pages to write some of her favorite memories.
JuneBug is the least crafty of my children but has been coloring in one of those adult coloring books with fun mandala pictures. I found a fun mandala to put on the cover, this way if it’s in her backpack it just looks like a coloring book and won’t call attention to itself if she doesn’t want to share.
The actual book is on order from Mixbook, I took advantage of their sale and put the album together in between working on the yard and running kids around!
Movie Monday Challenge
On the last (or fourth) Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!
This month’s challenge was. . . . Mothers! Your Mom’s Favorite Film, or just a movie about motherhood!Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite film so long as it was inspired by the challenge word.
Now let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create for this month’s #MovieMondayChallenge!! If you’d like to join our Facebook group, you can request an invite here.
