When I joined the Craft Room DeStash Challenge a few years ago, I actually took the challenge to heart for more than just once a month. As much as possible, I try to always use the craft supplies I have on hand before going shopping. Since I struggle to get rid of anything I could possibly craft from, I have a huge pile of scrap fabric. This month, it was time to finally time to make fabric twine out of some of my smallest strips of scrap fabric.
Fabric Twine
It’s below freezing here. Single digits.
Not only is my craft room always currently a disaster; it’s one of the coldest rooms in the house. So, I’ve been sitting by the fire in the living room where my craft supplies have been slowly creeping in.
A fire, blanket, and Netflix make for a great crafting spot. Once you get started making fabric twine, it’s perfectly mindless. Easy to do while watching the entire Haunting of Hill House series.
I knew most of these strips of fabric were too small to do much with, but I just can’t throw them in the trash! So, I collect them in a bin.
Using two strips of fabric, an inch or less in width, knot the ends together. Then start twisting the piece farthest away from you, twist away. Three tight turns is what I found worked well. Pull the twisted fabric forward over the other piece of fabric.
Now switch pieces and twist the other piece away and then pull it forward.
It’s not easy to photograph something that takes two hands! Once you get the hang of it, it moves along pretty quickly.
I try to always use two different lengths of fabric strips so they don’t end at the same time. When one does end, simply overlap a new piece by an inch and a half to two inches.
And just keep twisting!
Eventually, I ended up with a new bin, now full of colorful fabric twine!
Craft Room DeStash Challenge
Every month a group of bloggers are challenged by C’mon Get Crafty to create a new craft or project from their own stash of goodies! Everyone is allowed a $10 allowance for necessities to complete their project (i.e. paint brushes, glue, etc), but the bulk of it must be created from their own stash of goodies.
Let’s meet this month’s bloggers!!
