2107 is shaping up to be a pretty exciting year for me! My original goal for this little blog was to help me get myself, my household and my crazy craft and DIY to-do list under control. I’ve teamed up with a few other bloggers for some challenges that will be helping me reach those goals. This means I have lots to share here. This past weekend has been project-heavy at my house and I’m prepping posts as I’m still trying to stay a bit ahead and use my editorial calendar. See, still trying to be organized! But, I really wanted to keep you updated and share a FREE Valentine’s Day Printable with you!

Why? Well, once my Barn Wood Stocking Hanger was tucked away until next year, my mantel was looking pretty sad. That stocking hanger was the most action it’s seen since we moved it. Making the emptiness even sadder.

I’ll admit, I don’t do much decorating for other holidays. It’s not that I don’t want to, it just stresses me out a bit. Or, rather, getting the holiday put away stresses me out. I actually enjoy decorating, it’s the undecorating I don’t like. Once upon a time, I was in a good system of decorating for the next holiday. Then I got behind and 4th of July was still up at Halloween, Thanksgiving never made it out and by the time we decked the halls with boughs of jolly, we had less than 2 weeks to enjoy it.

So I quit.

The following December, I eliminated the stress by telling my kids to decorate however they wanted. They were happy and so was I. We did that again this year, and the girls even put it all away afterward. But all three kids have asked when we’ll decorate for other holidays again.

Maybe It’s Time

Now that my fireplace is all whitewashed and we burn a fire regularly, I find myself noticing the neglected mantel even more. Recently, I joined a group of bloggers for a #CraftyDestash challenge. The rules stated each blogger had to make something from their existing supplies. No more than $10 dollars could be spent additionally, because, let’s face it, sometimes you have everything but one part of a project!

Knowing I want to add some neutrals to my living room to tone down my love of color, I’ve been looking towards greenery, woods, and metals (Baby Sis had suggested adding some metallics to the space).  My reclaimed wood and mason jar mantel centerpiece came together exactly as I’d hoped.

For the rest of the mantel, I’ve been scavenging around the house to add to the display. Turns out, the little Valentine’s decor I kept, isn’t really my style any longer. I wanted something new, so I made and printed out a little sign.
