The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there. We’re all familiar with those lines and every year I enjoy hanging the quilted stockings my mother-in-law made our whole family over the years. I realize not everyone has handmade stockings, but, thanks to my friend Meredith, you can have hand knit stockings!

Hand Knit Holidays
My friend and neighbor, Meredith, has an amazing home-based business. She sells hand knit stockings. And, while she enjoys knitting, there is no way she could keep up with the number of stockings she sells each year.
She has 24 different patterns available, all using the same red, green and white wool yarn. Not a single one is knit on a machine. Many are based on vintage patterns but enlarged, because, well, stockings are meant to hold gifts!
Here secret? She employs a team of professional knitters in a remote area of the Andes Mountains where the poverty rate is high and job opportunities are scarce. Meredith flies down there every now and then to work with her knitters on new patterns or designs.
I love that she has found a way to work from her home (with 3 kids underfoot… ok, one did decide he was moving into my house for a little while, lol) and share her love of knitting. These ladies knit year round, just for her! No sweatshop here, these are other mothers who’s knitting skills are helping to provide for their families.
Ok, enough of my raving, more of the stockings.
Hand Knit Stockings
I love the vintage vibe of these stockings.
And the attention to detail. Yes, those are sequins!
And every hand knit stocking comes with personalization (I had to snag this one from her samples, already with my name on it!)
When personalized they hang to the left. But the details go all the way around. And simple stripes or less decorative stockings are also available.
How sweet would something like this be for a baby announcement?!?!?!? (Totally a part of my inspiration for my mini pallet ornament)
Those tiny stockings? Well, since we use our fireplace as soon as it gets chilly, our stocking either always get taken down, or I don’t even put them up until Christmas Eve. But the tiny stockings could be my solution…
Makes my barn wood stocking hanger not look lonely while we are using the fire starters O-Man made last year for IronFish’s Christmas present.
What’s your stocking tradition?
