Last month’s Movie Monday Challenge was dedicated to Mother’s Day. Obviously, this month we are celebrating Father’s Day with our challenge! My dad loves to take everyone who wants to go, to the movies. While we still see some movies together, he really enjoys taking his grandkids now. So, I didn’t ask my dad his favorite movie. One particular movie always makes me think of my dad… Hoosiers. I remember watching this movie with him many, many times. It’s still one of my favorites too. Watching it again recently for this challenge, I still laughed at my favorite lines. One of those really made me realize how much my dad did for his girls.
Hoosiers
Let’s face it, if you’ve read my blog, you know I like to crochet. I did give serious consideration to crocheting something for my dad with a basketball on it. He goes the at least one March Madness game with friends every year and enjoys going to Ohio State basketball games. But, I just wasn’t feeling it
So, one rainy weekend I sat down with my crocheting and watched the movie again.
Towards the end of the movie is one of my favorite lines. One of the players (the pastor’s son) and the coach are discussing how his dad gets to drive the bus. It’s their bus, used for church outings. But, every basketball season they paint the bus the team colors.
“God told him, paint the bus and drive the team.”
This time, it not only struck me as funny but a great example of my dad.
With three daughters, my dad tried to get us into basketball and softball. It was obvious early on that I would be tall, I’m just a bit shorter than my 6-foot tall dad. When I was in elementary school, he and some of the other fathers started a girls basketball league.
Despite my height, I never truly loved the game like he did. Softball wasn’t my thing either, but it did help to improve my nose! (Softball to face is not fun). I did really enjoy volleyball, but not enough to play on a team.
When his love of basketball didn’t take with any of his girls, he learned everything he could about dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. Yep, he ended up with three girly girls.
But, he fully supported us! He “painted the bus and drove the team.”
Ok, maybe he didn’t actually drive a bus full of girls to games, but he was always at our competitions or meets. He was happy to drive carpool. My dad was happy to see his girls do something they loved.
A Note to My Dad
Dad, if you are reading this post. Stop here!
Seriously, stop reading or you will spoil the surprise.
STOP!!!
Ok, I may not have always listened to you, but this isn’t the time to get back at me for not always listening to you, Dad!
Think he’s stopped reading? Ok, on with the project…
A Special Father’s Day Card
I decided to incorporate this favorite quote into a Father’s Day card for my dad this year. Using PicMonkey and a free stock image I found, I created the cover of the card:
I liked the simplicity of the wooden court and background with the worn ball.
For a few dollars, I am having the card printed through Mixbook. I selected a folded style so I could write a special message to him inside.
Sorry, I’m saving the inside of the card for him… in case he didn’t listen and stop reading when I told him to!
Movie Monday Challenge
On the last (or fourth) Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!
This month’s challenge was. . . . Fathers! Your Dad’s Favorite Film, or just a movie about fatherhood! Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite film so long as it was inspired by the challenge word.
