As the seasons and holidays change, I like to be able to change the decor in my house to correlate. Of course, where to store all the seasonal decorations can become quite a problem. Even though this house is larger than our last, I still try to keep storage in mind. One of my ongoing seasonal projects is to make pillow covers for the pillows I already have in my living room. Today I’m sharing my Valentine’s Tapestry Crochet Love Pillow.
Tapestry Crochet
My grandma taught me to crochet at 5 years old. Unfortunately, she didn’t teach me to read patterns. Over the years I have taught myself.
Actually, maybe it was a good thing she didn’t teach me to read patterns. It forced me to learn to figure out how to make something just from looking at it.
Tapestry crochet is something I have wanted to do more of ever since I made the Dahlia pillow almost 2 years ago!
This time, I wanted to try designing my own pattern, in a graph. This turned out to be a lot harder than I anticipated.
First I tried using a graphing program from an image I designed. I guess my lines were too thin because not everything showed up and I ended up drawing in the rest of the image on the graph.
Halfway through, I wasn’t thrilled with the look of my design. For my second attempt, I drew straight on the graph paper and made all my lines twice as thick.
This worked so much better!
I still don’t love the way the heart turned out. But I learned a lot in how to design tapestry crochet and I plan on designing a few other ideas I have floating around in my head.
Love Crochet Tapestry Pillow
I wish I had more pictures to share. Unfortunately, I did almost all of my crocheting while my daughter was sick. I didn’t have my camera with me and I thought I was taking pictures on my cell phone. If I was, I somehow didn’t save them!
Everything is crocheted in a single chain, each square of the graph paper equals one stitch.
