Welcome to another monthly #CraftRoomDestashChalleng. I’m forever finding myself with partial skeins of yarn and I can’t just throw them out. Yarn isn’t something I’ll need to buy for quite some time, I’ve got 8 huge totes of yarn in my basement! I inherited a healthy supply from a friend, some of which I used to make my Carlos. He morphed into about a dozen more, which I gave to the little kids at our church after our egg hunt. O-Man continually told me how I could make 2 brown ones and turn them into a monkey. So, for my little guy, I made a crochet monkey amigurumi and may have found a great use for my yarn supply!

Crochet Monkey Amigurumi

I can’t say I’m surprised O-Man asked for a monkey with every yellow chick I crocheted. Monkeys are his thing, they have been since he received his first Curious George stuffed animal at 10 months old. Not being able to say Curious George or monkey, O-Man quickly dubbed his new best friend, Momo.

Almost 10 years later, Momo and all monkeys are still his favorite.

Because I enjoy coming up with my own patterns, I initially planned on coming up with my own. But, I knew O-Man wouldn’t leave me alone until he had his hands on a monkey. I began checking out what patterns were already available.

After looking at a few great patterns, I decided on the Little Bigfoot Monkey from Amigurumi To Go. Not only was the pattern straightforward and easy to follow, but Sharon also offers videos for further description. (I didn’t actually check any of these out, but saw they were available, with notations in the pattern as to where in the video to find the visual).

Hover is an understatement! Someone would have been perfectly fine without dinner if I would have finished immediately. But, he really didn’t take too long to make.

Can you tell who’s happy with his new friend?

I really should have held the monkey hostage until he let me cut his hair!

The crochet monkey amigurumi really did turn out pretty cute.

I’ve started to check out some of the other cute patterns available. I love the big feet! Amigurumi are a great way to use up leftover partial skeins of yarn.

O-Man instructed me to make our monkey’s features as close to Momo’s as I could. And now that he has his monkey, he’s starting to come up with other ideas for me. So I’ll probably end up designing some of my own crochet amigurumi very soon!

  1. I love this project! Looks like your son does, too :) I've made knitted toys, but haven't tried my hands are amigurumi yet. This looks like the kind of project that would be great for a beginner. Pinned to my Spinning Yarns board :)
  2. This is so adorable. As is your son. I never did learn to crochet and my knitting isn't that good but I know it takes talent to do and to make your own patterns. Wow, I am in awe.
    1. Considering my son has added him to his collection of monkeys he sleeps with, it definitely will be around for years to come!
