Each month I enjoy participating in a few challenges with other bloggers. This month, one of those groups has a coastal craft theme. Aside from a jar of beach glass and lucky stones I often display, coastal decor isn’t usually my style. But, I love a challenge and my nautical rope vase evolved pretty quickly.
Inspiration
The ocean is only about 45 minutes from my house. But, I grew up on Lake Erie so lake beaches are my favorite. I do always love a good beach house decorated in a coastal theme. Maybe that is why I don’t do too much coastal decor in my own home.
But, my jar of beach glass and lucky stones from Lake Erie always makes me think of my family (especially my grandma) and our summers on the lake.
A chunky nautical rope can work with so many styles. So when I dug through my craft supplies and found some great rope, it was just a matter of figuring out what I was going to do with it!
Nautical Rope Vase
Finding nautical rope in my craft supplies was a great way to kick-off this project. Originally from Dollar Tree, I don’t remember what I planned on using it for when I purchased it. But, it’s great rope and now that I’ve used it for this, I’ll probably pick up some more next time I’m there!
After looking around a bit more, it occurred to me that covering an empty can with the nautical rope would be perfect.
A little hot glue is all it took. The rope is pretty thick so I used glue on every round, pushing the rows together as much as possible to completely cover the can.
The nautical vase only took a few minutes.
Then I shoved a piece of floral foam leftover from my Trough of Tulips into the can.
Any flower could go in this, but I happened to like this faux magnolia bloom. Recently I discovered Walmart has awesome faux flowers in their craft section, with amazing prices!
