As a child of the 70s, I had Underoos…. Wonder Woman Underoos to be exact! Due to the amount of pictures of me wearing them, it’s pretty safe to say I loved them. I don’t really remember many specifics about the show, but I do remember Lynda Carter and watching the show. And I’m really excited for the movie to be released in a few weeks. So, you can imagine how excited I was for this month’s #MovieMonday challenge when Wonder Woman was selected!

Wonder Woman

Even with my excitement, it took me a while to come up with a project inspired by the theme. My mind kept going back to my Underoos. Since my R2D2 hat was such a hit last month with the Star Wars theme, I considered making one for Wonder Woman.

But it was 90+ degrees!

I really didn’t want to make a nice warm hat and ask someone to model it for me in the sweltering heat!

And then I remembered my little neighbor in her Wonder Woman costume.

I decided to make her a crown to go with it.

Between the Movie Monday group and the Craft Room Destash Challenge, I’ve been crocheting a lot lately. Considering the mass quantity of yarn I have, this is a good thing!

Besides, I like to carry yarn with me and crochet when I’m waiting for the kids at their various lessons and practices.

I really enjoy making up my own patterns. Designing something while making it. Of course, my first attempt ended up being large enough to stretch to fit me!

But, once the first one was made, it was only a matter of scaling back the pattern for a child’s size.

My little neighbor was thrilled with it. She wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of me taking pictures of her, however!

But she’s cute just playing in her costume!

For Both Patterns

Using a G hook and worsted weight yarn in yellow and red. I used Red Heart and prefer these hooks. Use a yellow pipe cleaner to give the top of the crown rigidity. A yarn needle is needed to stitch the star onto the crown once they are both finished.

  • SC = Single crochet
  • DC = Double crochet
  • HDC = Half double crochet
  • BLO = Back loop only
  • TC = Triple crochet (only used in the adult size)

Movie Monday

The Movie Monday group is so much fun! Each month we select a movie or genre and everyone posts with something they made using the theme for inspiration. I’d love for you to check out all the other great posts!

Who else is excited about the new Wonder Woman movie?
